PREVACID belongs to a group of drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). It is used to decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach and treats ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), injury of the food pipe and conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (a condition where the stomach produces too much acid) and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. PREVACID is intended for short-term treatment (for 4 weeks) for healing and symptom relief.
PREVACID is not for immediate relief of heartburn symptoms.
