Top brand choice
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Moduretic is a hypertension medication available by prescription, used to lower blood pressure levels or reduce extra fluid in the body due to edema. Amiloride and Hydrochlorothiazide are diuretic drugs that promote your body in eliminating excess salt and water. Moduretic may also be prescribed for people who have chronic low blood potassium levels, or are at risk of heart failure, because of their blood pressure. Moduretic is available through various pharmacies, including those in Canada.
Hypertension is the clinical term for high blood pressure. It is defined when a person has continued blood pressure readings of a systolic pressure of 130 mm Hg or higher, or a diastolic pressure of 80 mm Hg or higher. There are Stage 1 and Stage 2 hypertension diagnoses, as well as a hypertensive crisis when a person’s blood pressure is so high that they need to receive immediate medical attention. Untreated hypertension can lead to stroke, heart failure, kidney damage, vision loss, erectile dysfunction, and memory loss. Excessive dietary sodium significantly contributes to the worsening of hypertension in adults.

What is Moduretic used for?
Moduretic is used to treat high blood pressure and help reduce swelling caused by congestive heart failure and liver cirrhosis.
How does Moduretic work?
It's a combination drug that contains amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ). Amiloride is a potassium-sparing diuretic, and HCTZ is a thiazide diuretic. Together they help the body get rid of extra salt and water and lower blood pressure.
What is the dosage for Moduretic?
The typical dosage range is 5/50 mg to 10/100 mg per day taken orally, often starting at lower doses then adjusted based on blood pressure response. Doses are usually split and taken twice per day.
What are the common side effects?
Common side effects can include dizziness, headache, fatigue, nausea, diarrhea or constipation, increased urination and thirst, muscle cramps, rashes, and low potassium levels.
What precautions should I know about taking Moduretic?
It’s important to tell your doctor about any thyroid, kidney, liver or electrolyte issues. Frequent blood tests help monitor levels. Avoid NSAIDs that could interact. Dehydration and low blood pressure are also possible concerns. The elderly may require lower doses adjusted slowly.
Can I drink alcohol while taking Moduretic?
Moderate alcohol intake should be okay, but check with your doctor. Excess alcohol can increase dizziness and low blood pressure risks. Avoid alcohol if you have liver problems.
How does Moduretic interact with potassium supplements?
Extra potassium likely won't be needed due to amiloride, but your doctor may prescribe supplements if levels get too low. Having too much potassium can also be dangerous, so careful monitoring is required.
What should I do if I miss a dose of Moduretic?
If it's almost time for your next regular dose, skip the missed dose and resume your normal schedule. Don't double up doses. If it's been 12 hours or more since when you take Moduretic, take the missed dose as soon as possible.
How long does Moduretic take to work?
It may take approximately 2 weeks for the full effects to be felt. Keep taking it even if you feel well, as stopping suddenly could make your blood pressure spike again.
Is there a generic available for Moduretic?
Yes, generic versions are available containing amiloride/HCTZ in the same strengths as brand name Moduretic.
